The chat log is not terribly enlightening, except that we did agree that the Guest Speakers would hold "office hours" when they could at Tapped In and other venues. Jackie is going to arrange a schedule at the NIFL wiki.
Notes from the conference call:
We Guest Speakers are to put up an introductory note with our greeting (a few sentences), and respond to the question Jackie will pose to the list: What is the most important issue in PD that you are currently facing? We should also select 2-3 questions that we think are important to cover during the week.
We all agreed that interactivity was important on the list and it should not be just information out. Some felt that voice chat wasn't important for this event, since it was more appropriate for one-way information feeds. However, I think at TI we agreed that subscribers might like to experiment with a number of different venues. I volunteered for an Elluminate/Learning Times session, and others will demonstrate synchronous venues they are using with their programs. Jacki will coordinate the schedule.
There is a wiki at the NIFL which we can use to put up info.
We also agreed that a Resources page should be put at the wiki there. [So this wiki will probably become superfluous.]
The conference call broke up at about 16:45 and we adjourned to TI. There was some difficulty in people getting into the AALP office, and I have put directions to get there in this wiki and will send them to Jackie.
ElizabethH: Jackie is explaining how to get a bigger chat screen.
DebraHar: thanks guys for all the help
DafneG . o O ( I am sure you will love Tapped In )
ElizabethH: They are asking about why we use TI
JackieAT: crystal is asking what the goals of the aalpd room?
DafneG: this is a great place to have meetings, keep files, have forum
discussions
DafneG: give live presentations
MarianTh: Can we get into this room when Elizabeth isn't online?
DafneG: sure
JackieAT: keep virutal office hours as a pd person...
MarianTh: Anyone who is a member can get in at any time?
LyndaTe: I need to leave now, but will investigate this later. Have a
pleasant afternoon
DafneG: sure, Marian
LyndaTe left the room (signed off).
JackieAT: by Lynda!
SharonLR: Sharon has to leave as well
SharonLR left the room (signed off).
DafneG: you can also have your own offices
KristineMa left the room.
MarianTh: Because maybe we could have more than one chat session next
week
JackieAT: yes i think that's a good idea
DafneG agrees
MarianTh: Or smaller groups of us could have our own little meetings
KristineMa joined the room.
DafneG: the chatlogs will get to your e-mail accounts
DafneG: as soon as you logout of TI
MarianTh: You guys need to get over this NIGHT thing! ;-) How about
afternoon??
ElizabethH: We are talking on voice about setting up an office hour for
each evening
DafneG: great idea!
ElizabethH: Each of the guests can do one :-)
ElizabethH: Doesn't have to be evening.
DafneG: evening is better for me during the week
ElizabethH: Pick a time--this is open all the time
ElizabethH: People are also talking about doing Elluminate/LT
DafneG -)
DafneG: skypecast is also good
DafneG: but no whiteboard ;-)
ElizabethH: Yes--I'm trying to get people interested in voice chat
DafneG: good for you :-)
ElizabethH: They need people to take the lead in planning synch venues
ElizabethH: They are going to set up office hours here in TI
ElizabethH: We're starting a sign up list
ElizabethH: They are also discussing the moderation of the list.
DafneG: they can keep the file here
ElizabethH: I think they would like to keep everything at the NIFL
Website
ElizabethH: There is a wiki there.
DafneG: I see
ElizabethH: The wiki is open
MarianTh: Thanks, Dafne, it's great of you to help us!
ElizabethH: Daf do you have any questions for the group?
ElizabethH: People are leaving
KristineMa left the room (signed off).
DafneG: I might have when I learn what they discussed today
CrystalLH left the room (signed off).
SusanO left the room (signed off).
ElizabethH: I think most people have signed off the conference
JackieAT: sorry dafne, it was hard for me to follow 2 conversations at
the same time
JackieAT: i'm back now
MarianTh left the room (signed off).
ElizabethH: Daf--Jackie and I both took notes, so we can quickly get
the info to our EVO group
DafneG: don't worry, Jackie
DafneG: thanks :-)
ElizabethH: Anything else you need to tell us about, Jackie?
MarianTh joined the room.
JackieAT: well, I just wan to make sure of our plans
ElizabethH: Marian--good to talk to you today
MarianTh: You too
MarianTh: I just logged out and logged back in to make sure I can find
the room again
MarianTh: Now it's easy
JackieAT: in terms of the wiki and the synch chat
JackieAT: yeay!
ElizabethH: Good, Marian
DafneG applauds
ElizabethH: Jackie--maybe you can set up a "sign-up" sheet at the wiki,
and then post it here also.
MarianTh smiles
JackieAT: i really liked teh group's ideas to keep office hours here
durinig the discussion week
JackieAT: you mean for the office hours?
ElizabethH: yes, J
DafneG: I like the idea
JackieAT: no problem.
ElizabethH: One question was why do all these different venues.
JackieAT: yes that was a good question - and good answers
ElizabethH: I see it as a way to show people the wonderful potential of
voice chat and other good stuff.
DafneG agrees
DafneG: learning by doing
ElizabethH: We didn't even mention polling, and interactive drawing
onscreen, and ppt slides, and guide Web tours
JackieAT: I like the idea of making connections with folks early on -
to energize the week's experience
JackieAT: dafne mentioned that we could use tapped in for
presentations...
DafneG: synchronous sessions bring people together
ElizabethH: I'll try to attend as many of the online meetings as
possible, but TI always has live helpers too.
JackieAT: you may have this already elizabeth...but
JackieAT: should we create some simple directions on how to become a
member, then join a group?
DafneG: I have a hectic week (foreign visitor in my coordination) but I
will try to make as many as possible
ElizabethH: Yes, I posted that on my wiki--we can put it on yours
JackieAT: okay - see u r light speeds ahead of me :)
ElizabethH: We at EVO have developed a lot of materials for using tools
like these.
ElizabethH: Practice, practice, practice...
DafneG: and many of us use these and other tools with our students
ElizabethH: I think one thing that's important is to move from
information feeding to interactivity
JackieAT: definitely, I agree wholeheartedly
JackieAT: that is the challeng
DafneG: We can invite them to the WiAOC, I am sure they will like the
sessions
JackieAT: brb...pending list post...
ElizabethH: I see a lot of the questions that can be demonstrated by
our conduct of the online discussion, e.g., the interactivty question.
DafneG: that would be a great end to the 2-week discussion
ElizabethH: Darn, I never got to mention the WiAOC--but that's OK,
we'll do it as soon as we join the list.
ElizabethH: I meant to invite everyone on the phone conference to it.
DafneG: Dennis and I are working on a help wiki with instructions on
how to register, and how to join the different venues
JackieAT: back now
DafneG: wb, Jackie
ElizabethH: Great, Daf!
DafneG: well, I need to go now. thanks Elizabeth and Jackie
ElizabethH: The last session on Sunday evening is available for us.
That would allow subscribers to"see" the whole conference and then discuss
it as a wrap-up.
DafneG: yes
ElizabethH: Is that a good time for you, Daf?
JackieAT: Daf, I was telling the guests that my hope with the informal
week one would be to "get the info out" piece, out so that week 2 can
be as interactive as possible
DafneG: the time is fine for me
ElizabethH: Good
ElizabethH: I've got to leave also--hope your mom recovers fast, Daf!
ElizabethH: Hugs
DafneG: for me it is 8 pm, i think
ElizabethH: Thanks again, Jackie
DafneG: thanks elizabeth
JackieAT: no problem, thank you. More in email...
DafneG waves bye to Elizabeth and Jackie
ElizabethH elizabeth departs in a cloud of dust...
